LONDON, Dec 2 (360Bulletin) – Legendary British singer Elton John, 77, has revealed he has lost his sight, sharing the news with a theatre audience in London on Sunday. The iconic “Rocket Man” and “Tiny Dancer” hitmaker attended the premiere of the West End musical The Devil Wears Prada, for which he composed the score, but admitted he couldn’t fully experience the show.
“As some of you may know, I’ve had issues, and now I’ve lost my sight. I couldn’t see the performance, but I thoroughly enjoyed it,” John shared, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The music legend explained that a recent eye infection had left him blind in his right eye, with his left eye also deteriorating. This has made it impossible for him to read, watch performances, or create new music, casting doubt on future recordings. Despite these challenges, John remains committed to his craft and family.
A Heartfelt Farewell
On the red carpet, John expressed gratitude for the musical adaptation of The Devil Wears Prada, saying, “It’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it, and it sounded wonderful tonight.” His emotional words underscored the bittersweet nature of the event.
The singer also took a moment to thank his husband, David Furnish, calling him his “rock” during this difficult time.
A Legacy That Shines Bright
Elton John, whose career spans over five decades, rose to fame in the early 1970s with his signature piano-driven rock anthems and ballads like “Candle in the Wind.” After concluding his epic farewell tour, which ran from 2018 to 2023, he shifted his focus to family life.
While his vision loss marks a poignant chapter in his life, Elton John’s enduring influence on music and culture remains untouched, reminding fans that his legacy extends far beyond the stage.
