Erie County Officials Urge Residents to Stay Home Amid Lake-Effect Snowstorm

360Bulletin – Dec 2 – Erie County Executive Brenton Davis and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Secretary Michael Carroll are urging residents to stay home as a powerful lake-effect snowstorm continues to impact the region. Officials stress that minimizing travel is crucial to ensuring public safety and allowing emergency responders to work efficiently.

Minimize Travel to Avoid Accidents

During a press conference at the Department of Public Safety Building, Davis emphasized the importance of staying off the roads to prevent accidents and delays. “The faster we can complete this work with fewer incidents, the quicker we can return to normal,” Davis said, highlighting the need for cooperation to expedite snow removal and road clearing efforts.

Carroll echoed the plea, urging residents to give emergency crews time to restore order. “Don’t travel unless absolutely necessary,” he said. “Give us today and tomorrow to clear the transportation network. We’ve made significant progress over the past 36 hours, and I’m confident we’ll continue to meet the needs of Erie County.”

Emergency Protocols and Resources

Davis reminded the public to use 211 for non-emergencies instead of 911, ensuring emergency operators remain available for urgent calls. For non-critical assistance, residents can also reach out to Davis directly via his campaign Facebook page.

Progress and Outlook

Emergency crews have been working around the clock to clear the roads, and officials remain optimistic about the progress. However, they stress the importance of continued public cooperation in staying indoors during the storm.

As Erie County faces this severe weather event, officials emphasize that staying home is the safest option, allowing emergency responders to focus on restoring normal conditions swiftly.
