Jarred Brooks Explains Flyweight Move: “Tired of Waiting” for Joshua Pacio

Jarred Brooks

In a candid revelation, ONE Championship’s strawweight king Jarred Brooks has opened up about his recent decision to move up to the flyweight division. The reigning strawweight champion, who has been dominant in his weight class, cited his frustration with the delay in securing a much-anticipated showdown with former champion Joshua Pacio as one of the key factors behind his decision.

Speaking to reporters, Brooks said, “One of the main reasons I decided to switch to flyweight was because I got tired of waiting. I wanted to stay active, and the opportunities in flyweight presented a new challenge.”

Brooks, known for his relentless pace and grappling prowess, captured the strawweight belt in December 2022 by dethroning Pacio in a five-round masterclass. While fans were eager for a rematch, negotiations and scheduling hurdles kept the bout in limbo.

The American star also acknowledged the competitive depth of the flyweight division as a motivating factor. “I’m excited to test myself against some of the best fighters in the world. Flyweight is stacked, and I’m ready to show everyone that I’m not just a strawweight champion—I’m a pound-for-pound threat.”

This move could set up intriguing matchups with flyweight elites such as Demetrious Johnson and Kairat Akhmetov. Fans are eager to see if Brooks can replicate his strawweight dominance in a heavier division.

As for the long-awaited rematch with Pacio, Brooks hinted it might still happen in the future, saying, “The door’s always open. Joshua’s a great competitor, and if the timing is right, we’ll make it happen.”

The transition marks a new chapter in Brooks’ career, and the MMA community will be watching closely to see how he fares in the highly competitive flyweight landscape.
