This November, Netflix has been rolling out a brand-new Christmas movie every week, with the latest release Our Little Secret starring Lindsay Lohan. Like its predecessors, the film wasted no time climbing to the top of the platform’s trending list.
In Our Little Secret, Lohan stars alongside Ian Harding as Avery and Logan, two exes who are less than thrilled to reunite for the holidays. Their awkward reunion is courtesy of their current partners, who happen to be siblings. Adding to the chaos is Kristin Chenoweth, who plays the meddling, over-the-top matriarch determined to micromanage the festivities—and everyone’s happiness.
“It’s so beautiful to be able to do films that are associated with holidays because it’s family time,” Lohan shared with Netflix’s Tudum blog. “When you can make a movie that families can remember and come together to see, it makes it all the more special.”
Despite its instant popularity, Our Little Secret has received mixed reviews. Written by Hailey DeDominicis and directed by Stephen Herek (Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure), the movie doesn’t aim to be groundbreaking. Instead, it offers exactly what you’d expect: a light, charming rom-com with a dash of holiday cheer.
Variety summed it up perfectly: “You watch Our Little Secret seeing through the paper-thin contrivances, tittering at the imbecilities, and somehow that all becomes part of the experience. It’s mainstream fodder as downgraded camp. It’s pablum so numbing it makes you feel good.”
For those who enjoyed Netflix’s previous holiday hits—or found unexpected joy in quirky surprises like Hot Frosty—this feel-good romp might be the perfect way to kick off the season. After all, it’s the holidays, and sometimes all you need is a little cheesy romance and holiday magic.
